Birch Bay is a relaxed beach community with a shallow, sandy bay, sunsets over the water and a mix of year-round homes, cabins and condos. My office is right here, so this is home turf.
Living in Birch Bay
The bay is shallow, so at low tide the beach stretches out for a long way — great for kids, dogs and beachcombing, and the water warms up nicely in summer. Birch Bay Drive runs along the shoreline with a waterfront promenade, small cafés and ice cream stops, and Birch Bay State Park offers beach access, trails and camping at the south end of the bay.

Homes and neighborhoods
Birch Bay has everything from beach cabins and waterfront condos to newer single-family neighborhoods on the hill above the bay. It’s popular with full-time residents, retirees and second-home buyers alike, so it pays to know which communities allow short-term rentals and what HOA rules apply.
Getting around
Birch Bay is a few minutes from I-5, with Blaine just to the north and Ferndale and Bellingham a short drive south.
